The Keimpema lab focuses on the roles of endocannabinoid and neuropeptide signaling systems in the development and function of brain circuitry. In particular, we study how cannabis can disrupt developmental growth processes by destabilizing endocannabinoid signaling, leading to cognitive and behavioral impairment at later stages of live. In addition, we investigate how neuropeptides, including oxytocin and dynorphin, signal to undescribed neuronal sub-populations in the cerebral cortex to reveal their contributions to behavioral outputs.
