The Bradl lab focuses on the interaction of pathogenic autoantibodies with their target cells in the central nervous system. We concentrate on Neuromyelitis Optica, and use this disease and its models to analyze how pathogenic antibodies gain access to brain and spinal cord, and why the binding of these antibodies to their target cells is compatible with cellular survival in some parts of the brain, and fatal in other brain regions. We combine spatial transcriptomics followed by detailed histological analysis to identify the mechanisms promoting the resilience of cells to antibody-mediated damage.
